The weather was cool, but not snowy, in our nation’s Capital last week, when 48 members of our California Head Start community participated in NHSA’s Winter Leadership Institute. Workshops covered a variety of important topics including enrollment, workforce, trauma-informed care and immigration, to name a few. On Wednesday morning, Jan. 29, our national Head Start community gathered in the Rayburn House Office Building for the congressional breakfast.

We are glad members of our California delegation were able to join us at the Head Start Congressional Breakfast, including Representative Harley Rouda (D-48), and Juan Vargas D-58). By 10:30 a.m., California Head Start directors, staff and parents were on the move, visiting more than 30 California Congressional offices. More than 25 joined together to visit the offices of Senators Feinstein and Harris to hear first-hand stories from our Head Start parents about how Head Start’s positive role in their lives and the lives of their children, as well as important conversations about Head Start eligibility and funding. View more photos
