I’m looking forward to laughing.

Some of our Head Start community was lucky enough to spend a little time with our keynote speaker Galen Emanuele back in 2018 at the Parent Engagement Conference. I can honestly say I’ve never seen that many parents laugh that much at one time — at a conference. At a stand-up comedy act, sure. But at a conference? Never.

It was engaging, enjoyable and instructive. It was also restorative. I believe in the power of laughter, and there’s good science to back up why laughing is critical to our well-being. The tiny but mighty staff of Head Start California has four core values, and it is no mistake on my part that one of them is humor.

But this is about more than having a good laugh. It’s about a way of thinking and working that unleashes creativity and collaboration — a way of interacting with others that creates the culture that attracts and retains people.

Good news, Head Start: Galen Emanuele is coming back to charm, instruct, and of course make our cheek muscles ache a little from laughing next month at the Policy & Leadership Conference! But you don’t have to wait until April to meet Galen Emanuele, because he has recorded a special message just for Head Start California, which you can watch here.

Don’t miss the opportunity to learn how to think differently about the interactions you have every day with every staff person, every parent and every child. It’s not too late to register, so sign up now.

Don’t miss out.
